Is there still a place for the high street store? Recent research into the shopping habits of 2,000 UK consumers by retail solutions company aptos found that, despite the popularity of shopping online, the in-store experience of Christmas shopping remains a firm favourite, with 71% of people preferring the physical experience of browsing and buying gifts.

Other interesting statistics from the research include –

  • 39% of shoppers use mobiles for inspiration
  • 28% of shoppers use mobiles to check prices while in-store
  • While 68% of shoppers find inspiration online, 52% still visit stores for ideas, with 44% turning to friends for ideas
  • For in-store, deals and promotions are crucial
  • For online, speed of delivery is the critical factor
  • Women aim to have their Christmas wrapped up in November
  • Men still leave it until Christmas Eve!
