Bravissimo is a specialist lingerie retailer that provides confidence-boosting lingerie and swimwear for D cups and above. It has 26 stores across the UK and also markets its product through mail order, online and, in the US, through catalogues and a US website. They use a mix of real models, actual clients and occasional celebs building up a devoted and loyal following since starting back in 1995.

“By harnessing ec2i’s customised technology for image and page production, we are always aware of what stage images and jobs are in the production process just by going online. This has cut down on admin and time wasted, and has made things simpler and easier.”

The Challenge

When Bravissimo approached ec2i in 2017, it was because they needed a partner who could restructure their time-consuming manual working practices across catalogue and image production by introducing online workflows to streamline internal processes. They currently produce six seasonal brochures for the UK market with another six for the US region.

Peak season versions are A4 with a mix of A5 and mini versions out of peak. Add to this postcards, inserts and sale notifications and it amounts to 500+ pages across the UK and US per annum. This is managed by teams in Marketing – including design, ecomms, digital and PR – and Product.

The Solution

ec2i adapted their Renaissance Image Library (DAM) to mirror Bravissimo’s requirements then integrated a production workflow within Renaissance Media Production Management (MPM) to allow easy access to mark up imagery for correction, add metadata, apply statuses to log each step of the process and to automatically file the approved imagery into the correct folders within the image library (DAM).

The same annotation, automation and status workflow has also been applied to the catalogue and photography production, all within Renaissance too, keeping the processes consistent throughout and allowing Bravissimo to have full visibility of the whole production process through an online browser at anytime, anywhere.

They are also safe in the knowledge that their assets are all backed up and secure. They also have the ability to access historic jobs, create flat plans, page turners and combined PDF booklets of their productions at the click of a button to be able to share around the business.

By joining up the process, and giving different user permissions to different groups, the Product team can comment on product and fit while the PR team, for example, can download images that are ‘approved for production’ but that might not be being used in the catalogues.

Comments Stephanie Hall, “By having all of the images online and in one place, the whole team can see at a glance what status has been applied to an image. Before, we didn’t upload images we weren’t using but then the PR team might want a different angle or product view and we’d have to stop work to find these examples somewhere else. Now we upload a wider range of images from every shoot so we don’t have this time-consuming problem anymore. And it’s all colour-coded which really works well across the teams as it shows them, clearly, what can and can’t be downloaded.

“For this same reason, we also send ec2i all product samples so they can colour match to the images, some of which will have been shot on location while others are in a studio setting. The differences in lighting across the two landscapes can distort the colour. This is so important to get right as returns are a costly."

Results & Benefits

Having the ability to do this all in one system online, with multiple user access and keeping an audit trail of each step works hand in hand to streamline the team’s working practise and reduce the manual processes originally involved at every stage.

Continues Stephanie, “What I particularly like about the Renaissance job management system is that we can ‘tag’ images to launches.

So, for example, if we upload 60 images that have different ‘web live’ dates, these can be tagged to Launch 1, 2 or 3 for retouching or web cropping enabling both us and ec2i to work on them in an organised and logical priority order.

“We’re a relatively small team but, by all working through Renaissance in the same way, we’ve become self-sufficient. It’s a really seamless process now and our account team at ec2i are super-quick to react to any requests or deadlines we present them with”.

Conclusion

By harnessing ec2i’s technology the team at Bravissimo has been able to manage the increase in marketing needs without adding extra personnel. And, with all the team working in the same cohesive way, the responsibility of the different production processes doesn’t all fall on one pair of shoulders or slow up if members of the team are away on a shoot.
