Smartphone to Sureshot

The following personal and thought-provoking article was written by one of our ec2i colleagues, Pawel. He is a passionate photographer and retoucher. We did not feel the need to edit his personal take on images and retouching.

Social media absorbs photos. Millions of them contribute to communication between people every single day. Photos are messengers of ideas, thoughts, feelings and information and connect people in the quickest possible way.

The world is watching your contribution to the virtual universe, judging your efforts at the same time. But ask yourself: is your virtual voice being received with the intention and purpose you wanted to achieve.?

"A picture is worth a thousand words" refers to the concept that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single picture. A story behind that picture also encapsulates your experience, desires and all that invisible context of your personality which is responsible for the moment of creation, released through your camera. Your inner nature connects you with the outside world. It gives direction to the exposure of your awareness when you take a shot.

But a camera is only a tool to extend your senses. It doesn't convey your imagination which provokes you to see the most vital details in your picture, the most essential and crucial element behind your story. Because of this technological limitation, you should be encouraged to improve your photo to emphasise its meaning. It will allow the viewers to experience your unique way of perceiving the world. It would help if you created a picture which represents not only an eyewitness point of view but makes you the architect of a story you want to share.

You have the right to edit your message and present it in a way you intend. Retouching doesn't twist reality. It empowers your story and makes it alive and visible. If you want to attract attention, you need to be bold and reveal the full potential of your image. It may be a simple change of colour or detail correction which empowers the story in your picture.

Retouching is a tool which can give an additional dimension to your smartphone images. All you need to do is to use it to strengthen your virtual character effectively, connecting with other people so that they can remember you.
